The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

"The Great Gatsby" set in the 1920s, follows the main character Nick Carraway, who moved to Long Island, and becomes entangled in the rich lifestyle of his fancy neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is in love with Daisy Buchanan, Nick's cousin, and is determined to win her back despite her marriage to an abuser Tom Buchanan. The novel explores themes of wealth, love, and the American Dream, ultimately revealing the emptiness behind closed doors. Tragedy happens as Gatsby's pursuit leads to him getting shot and killed, highlighting the illusions of success and the fragility of dreams.

My favorite characters from the book:

The Giver by Lois Lowry

This "The Giver" book is not the one from your childhood with the tree and the boy. This book is the first part of a series, it is about pain and what it's like to be a human. Jonas is the main character, The Giver is Jonas' mentor in the book and a key character in guiding Jonas and his decisions that end up leading to stealing a baby and running away. Gabriel is said stolen baby. He is also the main character of the Son book, which I believe is the last of the series.

My favorite characters from the book:

Lord of the Flies by William Golding

"Lord of the Flies" is the story of a group of boys stranded on an uninhabited island after a plane crash. As they attempt to govern themselves, their sense of order is quickly thrown out the window, leading to chaos and violence. Ralph, the elected leader, struggles to maintain civilization, while Jack, who prioritizes hunting and power, represents the descent into savagery. Tensions escalate between the two groups, resulting in the killing of the character Piggy. When a naval officer brings them back home, but the boys are negatively changed by their experiences.
